Who's behind True Frontier In Action

The honest forecast — and the specialist who's actually been there.

Most aurora tools are built by people who've never stood in the cold waiting for the sky to move. This one is different. The journeys are designed by Jo Sehgal — an expedition-cruise specialist who has personally travelled the Arctic for years. That's her, on the voyage.

Aurora over the Norwegian fjords

Meet Jo Sehgal

Jo doesn't resell a brochure — she plans trips she has actually taken. Her home turf is Arctic Norway, and from there she designs aurora journeys across the Arctic and beyond. She has inspected ships, joined expedition sailings, and helped travellers understand what Arctic travel is really like. The aurora is her speciality — but as a cruise specialist she can plan a voyage anywhere in the world.

In a traveller's own words

“You played a huge part in my solo travel journey.”

“I enquired about Antarctica but was unsure whether I could cope with the long haul and the Drake. You suggested Greenland instead. Without that trip I'd never have had the confidence to go to Antarctica — it launched my whole polar journey: Greenland four times, Antarctica three, and a third trip to Iceland coming up.”

“With each adventure you've given such support — especially when I was anxious about my first solo visit to Buenos Aires, or wanted special arrangements. I feel very blessed to have met you.”

Why we built this

At 69°N, there's a world of difference between reading about the aurora and standing under it. Every journey here is designed to get you to that moment — and the app is built so you don't waste your finite nights getting there.

Honest forecasting, and journeys planned by people who actually go. That's the whole idea.

A clear night is a rare thing. We don't waste yours.

Jo kept meeting travellers who'd driven into the cold on the promise of an app alert, only to stand under cloud and a full moon and see nothing. Most aurora apps cry wolf — they ping the moment there's solar activity, even when it's overcast, daylit, or a bright moon washes the sky out. A clear, dark, moonless night is precious, and there are only so many in a season. So she helped commission a forecast that tells the truth: a Tonight Score that only says go when you can actually see something.

Honest forecasting and real journey planning — from people who care whether you actually see them.

Honest go/no-go × Someone who's been there

= nights under the lights, not in the cold for nothing

Three roles, one clear job each.

It's worth being precise about who does what — because honesty is the whole point of this site.

The forecast

True Frontier In Action

We build the honest aurora app and the Tonight Score, and we publish Jo's journeys. The app was built by Consultancy in Action (Sandy Sehgal). We are not a travel agent — we don't sell, arrange or book travel.

The booking

An ATOL-protected travel company

Jo arranges your voyage through an ATOL-protected travel company, which handles every enquiry, the booking and its financial protection.

The journeys

Jo Sehgal

The specialist who designs the voyages and replies to your enquiry personally — not a call centre.

So when you tap “Plan an aurora journey”, you're not buying anything here. With your consent we simply pass your enquiry to Jo, a specialist at an ATOL-protected travel company, who takes it from there.

Lived experience, not a brochure.

Jo has travelled these routes, inspected ships, joined expedition sailings and helped travellers understand what Arctic travel is really like. Photography on this site includes personal images taken by Jo and Sandy during Arctic travels over many years, alongside selected destination imagery.
